Costume designer Steven Williams has shared behind-the-scenes insights into the creation of Violet Bridgerton’s corset, featured in a memorable scene with the line “I am the tea you drink” in the latest season of “Bridgerton,” as reported by UNN.
According to the artist, the garment was crafted from silk duchess satin using a complex boning technique, where each element was shaped from individual linen cords sewn together by hand. Portions of the panels were adorned with exquisite Chantilly lace featuring metallic floral motifs, adding depth and texture to the ensemble. A notable departure from convention was the omission of a traditional chemise beneath the corset. Instead, the team designed special silk French knickers made of lace, worn over the corset to further accentuate the heroine’s silhouette.
The final touch to the look was a lightweight silk robe. The costume was the work of the series’ leading specialists, with artistic direction overseen by John Glaser and Georgina Wilson, who are responsible for the distinctive aesthetic of “Bridgerton.”
