A blogger named Victoria showed how eerie a night journey on a cruise ship sailing in the middle of the ocean can be.

The clip posted on TikTok went viral, gathering over 20 million views and numerous comments.

“Cruises are fun until you realize… how dark the ocean can get,” the traveler wrote in the comments to her video.

For contrast, Victoria first showed a view of the ocean on a sunny day, after which she presented footage shot at night.

The difference greatly impressed social media users, some of whom recalled the “Titanic” disaster, which occurred in the middle of the night in April 1912.

They emphasized how terrifying that event must have been precisely at night.

“People on the ‘Titanic’ had to be in such darkness, in icy water, hearing the screams of thousands of people,” one comment read.

Some also mentioned thalassophobia – the fear of deep water and open bodies of water.

“I think everyone would agree that thalassophobia is the most understandable fear a human has ever experienced,” another commenter wrote.

Overall, users widely admitted that the video caused them anxiety and even panic.

One commenter recalled their own experience of being on a liner that was also sailing at night in the middle of the ocean.

“I went out on the deck at night, there was no one around. And suddenly I realized that if I took a step, I would be absolutely alone in the middle of the darkness. I had never felt such fear before,” he wrote.

We remind you that 79-year-old Anne Lydle from Great Britain, who has made about 80 cruise trips, shared her favorite places in the world and tips for those planning a solo cruise.
