The beach of Nosy Iranja in Madagascar has been recognized as the best in Africa and fourth among the world’s top beaches for 2026. This location has surpassed popular destinations in Italy, Greece, Mauritius, and South Africa, even though the island nation itself is rarely considered among the continent’s most sought-after tourist spots.
This information was reported by the publication Express.
A ranking of the 50 best beaches globally for 2026 was recently released. The top spot on the list was taken by a beach in the Philippines, with Nosy Iranja in Madagascar securing the fourth position and also earning the title of Africa’s premier beach.
Despite tourists frequently opting for Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, or Mozambique for their beach holidays in Africa, the continent’s leading beach this year is situated precisely in Madagascar – an island state off the eastern coast of Africa.
In the ranking, Nosy Iranja is described as a “truly unique place,” consisting of two islands: Nosy Iranja Be and Nosy Iranja Kely.
The beach’s most distinctive feature is its two-kilometer sandbar, which connects the two islands during low tide. When the water level rises, the sandy strip submerges.
The report also highlights that Nosy Iranja is renowned for its turquoise waters, pristine white sand, and the sea turtles that frequently nest along its shores.
Nosy Iranja ranked higher than Le Morne beach in Mauritius and Boulder’s Beach in South Africa.
At the same time, travelers are advised to exercise caution when visiting Madagascar. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s travel advice indicates that violent robberies are common in the country, and foreigners are often targeted by criminals.
The ministry reports that instances of attacks have occurred even during daylight hours. Tourists are advised to be particularly vigilant on isolated and remote beaches, avoid traveling alone, and, if possible, utilize the services of experienced tour operators.
The advice also warns of armed robberies on main roads, especially at night and outside of major cities. Travelers are recommended to use transportation arranged by hotels or trusted operators.
Tourists are specifically urged to avoid local shared taxis due to the risk of robbery. In the event of an attack, the recommendations advise against resistance, as assailants may be armed.
There are also reports of criminals impersonating police officers, so travelers are advised to verify the identification of security or police personnel.
As a reminder, a Ukrainian blogger previously shared the costs of vacations in popular tourist spots and establishments in Paris for 2026.
