What the third season will be about
In the new season, we reconnect with Rue, Cassie, Cal, and other characters five years after the events of the second season. They are no longer in school, and judging by the first trailer, their lives are becoming increasingly dramatic. “Childhood friends try to comprehend the nature of faith, find a path to redemption, and unravel the question of where evil originates,” reads the synopsis for the new season.
Recall that the finale of the second season, which saw Jules and Rue part ways and Jacob Elordi’s character arrested, left many unanswered questions. So, we truly hope that at least some of them will be explored in the third season.
Rue’s story is partly inspired by the personal experiences of director Sam Levinson, so she will continue to be at the heart of the narrative. The events begin in Mexico: Rue has significant debts to Laurie. She is in a precarious situation and trying to find a way to survive and settle her debts.
“I think it will be interesting to see the characters after school. I want to see what Rue becomes on her path to sobriety — and how chaotic that can be,” Zendaya shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “And in general — how they all try to figure out what to do with their lives after school and who they want to become. The distinctiveness of the second season was that we delved deeper into other characters. I think in the third season, this can be further developed. There are so many talented, vibrant people — I want everyone to have their moment.”

What we saw in the trailer
At the end of March, HBO released the trailer for the new season. It begins with a scene where Rue is being interrogated. “Have you ever been to Mexico?” asks an officer. And then — glimpses of her life… where she is involved in drug smuggling. “At the beginning, we had to decide who we are and what we want,” says Rue’s voice. Simultaneously, we see: Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) wedding to Nate (Jacob Elordi), Jules (Hunter Schafer) in her studio, Lexi (Maude Apatow) making her way in Hollywood — and even a cameo by Sharon Stone.
“But we didn’t even imagine how far we were willing to go,” Rue continues. “After all, whoever you are and whatever you want, we are all accountable to God,” concludes the character.
Judging by the trailer, “Euphoria” is becoming even more dramatic and darker.
Jacob Elordi and Zendaya Return, with Rosalia Among the New Stars
The main cast returns for the third season. Among them are: Zendaya as Rue Bennett, Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn, Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard, Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez, Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs, Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs, Martha Kelly as Laurie.
Spanish star Rosalía has also joined the cast in a guest role. Among the new names are also Sharon Stone, Natasha Lyonne, Rebecca Pigeon, Sam Trammell, and Trisha Paytas.
About the music in the third season
A significant part of “Euphoria’s” DNA is its powerful music, which helps create the psychedelic atmosphere of the series. According to Sam Levinson, he wrote the third season while listening to the soundtracks of “Interstellar” and “True Romance.” It appears the third season will take things to a new level. According to Variety, Oscar winner Hans Zimmer has joined the third season of “Euphoria” as a composer, working on the music for some episodes.
“It is an honor for me to join this incredible team of storytellers led by the visionary Sam Levinson,” Zimmer said in his statement. “Together, they have created such a bold and moving series that means so much to viewers. Labrinth’s music has shaped the identity of the series, and I look forward to contributing to the development of the story and helping to shape this new season through music.” Musician Labrinth, who was responsible for the series’ music for the first two seasons, is also expected to return to work alongside Zimmer, whom he calls “one of his heroes in film music.”
