Audrey Hepburn offers inspiration year-round, but her summer looks deserve special recognition. While vacationing in Antibes, the actress sported oversized sunglasses, and for boat excursions, she chose wide-brimmed hats with unique silhouettes. During the filming of “Roman Holiday,” she was seen indulging in gelato with Gregory Peck, dressed in a skirt that accentuated her waist. In her leisure time with her husband, Mel Ferrer, the actress frequently donned checked capri pants. Fortunately, numerous photographs have preserved Audrey Hepburn’s diverse summer styles from her younger days.
Many of these photographs were taken at the renowned Bürgenstock Resort in Lucerne, Switzerland. In 1954, Audrey Hepburn married Mel Ferrer in the resort’s chapel. She subsequently resided at Villa Bethania, a residence also part of the resort complex. Later, the actress relocated to the Swiss town of Tolochenaz. There, she lived in an 18th-century farmhouse named La Paisible. Vogue featured this home in its April 1961 issue. When not engaged in filmmaking or promotional activities in Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn enjoyed playing golf, tending to her garden, and relaxing amidst the Swiss Alps.
Below, we invite you to view 18 photographs of Audrey Hepburn showcasing her most memorable summer ensembles.
