The video shared has captivated social media users, with some recalling the “Titanic” disaster in this context.

A blogger named Victoria demonstrated how eerie nighttime journeys on a cruise ship sailing through the ocean can be.
The clip posted on TikTok went viral, garnering over 20 million views and numerous comments.
“Cruises are fun until you realize… how dark the ocean can get,” the traveler wrote in her video’s description.
For contrast, Victoria initially showed the ocean view during a sunny day, then proceeded to display footage filmed at night.
The stark difference greatly impressed social media users, some of whom invoked the “Titanic” catastrophe, which occurred in the middle of the night in April 1912.
They emphasized how terrifying the event must have been precisely because it was at night.
“People on the Titanic had to be in such darkness, in freezing water, hearing the screams of thousands of people,” one comment read.
Some also brought up thalassophobia – the fear of deep and open bodies of water.
“I think everyone agrees thalassophobia is the most understandable fear a human has ever felt,” another commenter wrote.
Overall, users widely admitted that the video induced anxiety and even panic in them.
One commenter recalled their personal experience of being on a liner that was also sailing at night in the middle of the ocean.
“I went out on deck at night, there was no one around. And then I realized that if I took one step, I would be completely alone in the darkness. I had never felt such fear before,” he wrote.
As a reminder, 79-year-old British resident Anne Lidley, who has taken about 80 cruises, shared her favorite places in the world and tips for those planning a solo cruise.
